Tweedbank Community Centre: Update on Borders Sporting & Cultural Review

The future of Tweedbank Community Centre is currently under review as part of the Borders Sporting and Cultural Estate Review. This review, conducted by Live Borders and the Scottish Borders Council (SBC), aims to evaluate the long-term sustainability of community services and properties across the region.

As we navigate this critical process, we want to keep the community informed about the developments and opportunities for involvement. The review is focused on ensuring that services remain relevant, accessible, and sustainable for the future. On this page, you will find the latest updates on where we currently stand, the steps being taken, and how you can contribute to shaping the future of the centre. Your voice is essential as we work together to secure a vibrant and sustainable community space for Tweedbank.

Town Hall Meeting - 3rd June

Our recent town hall meeting to discuss the future of Tweedbank Community Centre was an important step in gathering community feedback and planning next steps for the centre’s sustainability.

Unfortunately, attendance was lower than expected, and we encourage anyone who couldn’t make it to get involved in the ongoing process. If you’re interested in learning more or would like to contribute to the discussions, please reach out to Kirsty, Chairperson, at chairpersontweedbankcc@gmail.com.

You can also download the presentation that was delivered on the night to catch up on the details discussed, although please note that some content from the discussion was not included in the presentation. Your input is vital as we work together to ensure the future of the centre remains bright and secure for the community.

Key Points

  • The proposal within the Integratis Report for Tweedbank Community Centre is to close or pursue CAT (Community Asset Transfer)

  • Discussions around Community Asset Transfer have been in play for years - but this is not a viable option currently due to the current financial deficit and the lack of separate space within the community centre to generate additional income from a focussed funding project

  • Council may be asked to vote on closures in the Autumn

  • Consultation has started with online consultation & suggestion boxes - Tweedbank Community Centre House Committee has not yet had any direct engagement so all information shared here and in the presentation has not come from discussions with Live Borders or SBC, but our basic understanding of the situation

  • The communities views will be key in shaping the consultation and results
